The Lake Project Lake Erie Interior Design Renovation
What was a contemporary home renovation became a thoughtful transformation rooted in its lakeside setting. The goal behind the project was to create a serene, modern retreat that embraced the sweeping views of Lake Erie while bringing warmth and comfort into the everyday living spaces.
With the water as its backdrop, the palette was selected to reflect the natural surroundings. Warm whites layered with muted blues and soft greens echo the lake and sky just beyond the expansive windows. Black framed windows add crisp architectural contrast against the soft walls and frame the views like living artwork.
The details within this renovation are a true reflection of the homeowner’s lifestyle. A love for animals and a demanding career as an emergency veterinarian meant that durability was just as important as design.
Days spent fishing, traveling, and enjoying time outdoors by the water called for interiors that could handle wet gear, sandy shoes, and the occasional muddy paw, all while maintaining a refined and welcoming feel.
Wide plank hardwood flooring in a light, natural finish runs throughout the main living areas, offering organic texture and warmth underfoot while standing up beautifully to daily wear. In the great room, a floor to ceiling stone fireplace creates a dramatic focal point. The stacked stone surround and substantial floating wood mantel bring depth and richness, while built in shelving on either side provides symmetry and functional display space.
The kitchen and dining area continue the modern yet inviting aesthetic. Maple cabinetry introduces gentle warmth through its natural grain, complemented by minimal hardware and clean silhouettes. A black linear chandelier above the dining table mirrors the window frames and reinforces the cohesive contrast found throughout the home.
Soft furnishings in cream and pale blue enhance the coastal inspired palette, while washed blue rugs tie the interiors back to the lake beyond. Through the thoughtful combination of wood, stone, tile, black accents, and a calming spectrum of blues and greens, this renovation feels elevated, welcoming, and deeply connected to its Lake Erie setting.
